The Key West Seaport Alliance is a group of Key West residents & business people who understand that:
• Key West needs an environmentally safe channel and harbor.
• Our seaport and cruise ship visitors benefit the entire Key West economy and all our residents.
We want to provide factual information about our seaport & the cruise ship business.
Over the years Key West has made many decisions about encouraging or discouraging economic activities.
Examples of these decisions include improving roads, establishing bike lanes, having passenger jets, encouraging the Navy to stay, keeping a hospital & helicopter medical services, limiting building heights, etc.
There is a Chinese saying that “In nature there are neither rewards nor punishments. There are consequences.”
Good facts & research will enable us to foresee consequences and make good choices.
The Channel Widening Feasibility Study is designed to give us this good information.
The Key West Harbor channel needs to be slightly widened to accommodate modern, evolving ship designs.
Modern, high quality cruise ships are critical to maintaining our community character.
There is no realistic alternative to the jobs and city revenue generated by cruise ships.
Our City Commission needs to support the Channel Widening Feasibility Study and your Commissioners need to hear from you.
The citizens of Key West need to vote for the Feasibility Study in the referendum on
Election Day 1 October 2013.
